VFW Post 9097 DONATES TO VETERANS The photo above shows VFW Post 9097 Commander Glenn Webb (left) presenting a check for $2,000 to Chairman of the Governor’s Veteran’s Advisory Council, Don Kinnard. Mr. Kinnard accepted the check on behalf of the WV Veterans Nursing Home Welfare and Recreation Fund to benefit the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Home. Senate Bill 1005, passed during the 2001 Legislative Session, authorized the sale of revenue bonds to support the State of West Virginia's 35% share of construction costs. Total estimated costs were estimated at around 26 million dollars with 16 million dollars being provided by the federal Veterans Affairs Administration. The sale of the Veterans scratch off lottery tickets is providing the state’s matching funds. The Nursing Home will be a 120-bed facility with 30 beds designated for Alzheimer patients. The cost for operating this special Alzheimer wing will be significant, yet we believe the need for this type of specialized care is justified by the sacrifices made by our veterans for the freedoms that we all enjoy. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new facility were held on October 13, 2003 and dedication ceremonies are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on November 11 (Veteran’s Day). The new facility is under construction at Clarksburg. More information on the nursing home can be found on the West Virginia Division of Veterans Affairs web site at : http://www.wvs.state.wv.us/va/nursinghome.htm All VFW Posts have been invited to contribute to this the first Veterans home built in West Virginia. Individuals are also invited to contribute. Please contact Don Kinnard at 562-5971 for more information. (Mr. Kinnard asks that you please call before 8:00 p.m.)
