VFW Post 9097 RECRUITS DURING CIVIL WAR WEEKEND AT HURRICANE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - March 26, 2007
Great weather and great people got together over the past weekend at Valley Park in Hurricane for the 10th annual Civil War Weekend (March 23-25, 2007). VFW Post # 9097, Hurricane, set up a booth at the event in order to help recruit new members for the post. "It was a great time to meet friends, veterans and visitors from other states," according to Commander Glenn Webb. Post 9097 now boasts about 330 members and was using the recruiting opportunity to also recruit members for a new Men's Auxiliary at the Post. Quartermaster Bill Lambert added, "We now have about 21 Auxiliary members signed up and only need 25 total to charter a new auxiliary organization in Hurricane, this should put us over the top." The idea and most of the work came from Ed Jividen, post member. Ed arranged for the VFW tent, helped arranged volunteers and was present as a volunteer at the booth all three days of the event. "Ed deserves a tremendous amount of credit and certainly, our appreciation," according to Commander Webb.
In the photo below, Bill Lambert, Quartermaster, Glenn Webb, Post Commander
and Jim Totten man the booth to meet with veterans and visitors during the
event.

During the weekend, visitors could take part in events such as "Life in the 1860's; Artillery Night Battles; Historical Lantern Tours; Battle and Tactical Demonstrations; horse drawn wagon rides and many other activities. This year's weather made for a truly memorable event.
