FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  -  November 19, 2007

VFW Post # 9097 members and Men's and Ladies Auxiliary members have been extremely  busy recently.  In the photo (left) unveiling of the new Blue Star Memorial Plaque at the I-64 rest area at Hurricane takes place.  Eleven members (including two from the Ladies Auxiliary participated in the event.  The honor guard raised the flag and played taps during the event.

The Post also hosted a Halloween Party at the post with 32 children participating in the festivities.  In the photo above, the winners in each category posed for this photo.  Seven members worked at the party, lasting 2 1/2 hours at the post where participants played games.  Member Gary Lewis played music for the event.  There was finger food and soft drinks for the kids with door prizes for each child and parents were given fingerprint cards for each child provided by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

200 Buddy Poppies were donated to the Hurricane Middle School and the Ladies Auxiliary donated 20 dozen cupcakes and $115 to the Veterans Home at Barboursville.  Also, the post donated 4' X 6' U.S. flags to families of the 111th Engineer Brigade at Eleanor that shipped out to Iraq.

In all, 325 hours were donated, $400 with a total of 73 persons donating time to make all of these events happen.  If you would like more information or would like to join the VFW, Men's or Ladies Auxiliary, please contact the post.  Please stop by as a guest.
