Post # 9097 Grand Re-Opening Celebration

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Saturday night’s (2/23) grand re-opening at VFW 9097 in Hurricane could only be called an overwhelming
success.  Around 100 people turned out to create a standing-room only celebration for the Post’s major
remodeling.

Post Commander Bill Lambert welcomed members and guests to the new facility and Past State Commander
Don Kinnard was on hand to present a series of special recognition awards.  Lambert also recognized the
leadership of Sr. Vice Commander Raymond Lewis.  Lewis was instrumental in re-organizing and energizing the
Post 9097 Honor Guard.  The Honor Guard has served in a number of funerals and at events such as the
Memorial Day and Veterans Day events.  The Honor Guard will present colors during the grand opening
ceremonies for Hurricane’s new Wal-Mart Super Center at 7:30 a.m. on March 7th.

Each of the officers and directors for the VFW, Ladies Auxiliary and Men's Auxiliary were also introduced (pictured below)

Jr. Vice Commander Ed Jividen accepted a large plaque with individual plates listing the names of volunteers
who donated time and expertise toward the remodeling project.  In the photo below, Ed holds up the plaque honoring the volunteers.

Scott Smith was awarded a framed Certificate of Appreciation for his service and donations in support
of the Post and its members.   Photo below.

Ed Jividen also received a personal “Spark Plug” award plaque. (photo below) Commander Bill Lambert credited Jividen’s
leadership and ability to organize and motivate the over 30 volunteers that were involved in the remodeling of the Post Canteen.

Don Kinnard then surprised Bill Lambert with a plaque expressing Post member’s appreciation for Lambert’s
service as Post Commander during 1007-2008.

Post members welcomed guests to the celebration followed by live music as members and guests enjoyed the renovated facility.

Members were then treated to music from the band Legend and the dance floor was very crowded. (photo below)
