WEST VIRGINIA VFW DISTRICT 8 MEETING - FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY HELD AT POST # 9097
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - April 21,
2008
Hurricane, WV – VFW Post # 9097 on Teays Valley Road in Hurricane welcomed members from several posts from the 8th District on Sunday afternoon (April 20, 2008) at the Post. The local post had a variety of events planned for the district meeting including a POW/MIA ceremony hosted by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a stirring flag retirement ceremony hosted by the VFW 9097 Honor Guard, and a dinner for a standing room only crowd.

In the second photo (below) VFW 9097 Ladies Auxiliary President Shirley Lewis, reads a salute to Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action in all wars in a darkened room lit only with candles held by members of the VFW, Men’s Auxiliary and Ladies Auxiliary.

In the next photo, members and guests are treated to two selections sung by 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at Conner Street Elementary School in Hurricane. The students were conducted by Jackie Lee, Music Teacher at Conner Street.

In the next photo, to the excitement of the Veterans (salute.jpg), the second song ended with a salute to veterans by the Conner Street students.

VFW District 8 Election
After the ceremonies District 8 meetings were held by the VFW Posts and Ladies Auxiliary. In the final photo, new District 8 VFW Officers are sworn in by Mr. Ralph Stump, former West Virginia VFW State Commander. New officers elected during the meeting were: Scotty King, District 8 Commander; Raymond Lewis, Sr. Vice Commander; Mike Cagle, Jr. Vice Commander; Bill Lambert, Quartermaster; 3-year Trustee, Ron W. Wroblewski; 2-year Trustee, Lawrence Plank; 1-year Trustee, Ted Turley; Surgeon, Mike Adkins; Chaplin, A.W. McKenny; Judge Advocate; Richard Giles.
