48th ANNUAL  WEST VIRGINIA VFW YOUTH CAMP - JULY 13-19 AT CEDAR LAKES CONFERENCE CENTER

The 48th annual West Virginia VFW Youth Camp will be held July 13-19, 2008.  The camp is held each year at Cedar Lakes Conference Center near Ripley, WV.  The center is located on 450 acres of farmland.  The camp is the only VFW-operated youth camp in operation in the United States and has been in continuous operation by VFW and Ladies Auxiliary members since 1960.

The mission of the VFW Youth Camp is to provide youth with an understanding of and appreciation for patriotism and West Virginia while meeting other children from throughout West Virginia and building lasting memories and friendships.  Camper activities include archery, crafts, rock wall climbing, campfires, volleyball, softball and swimming.

The VFW Youth Camp is open to any boy or girl currently 11, 12 or 13 years of age.  Any individual, business, organization or VFW Post or Auxiliary can sponsor a camper.  VFW Post #9097 Post Commander and 2008 VFW Youth Camp Director, Bill Lambert, says "the cost is $225 per camper and camper sponsors, and donations of money, supplies and evening snacks are still needed for this year's camp."
