Post 9097 Congratulates Monica Roberts as VFW-WV Elementary School Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year - 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  - May 2, 2007

VFW Post # 9097, Hurricane, WV honored  Monica Roberts as Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of West Virginia Elementary School Citizenship Education Teacher of the Year.  Ms. Roberts holds a Masters Degree plus 45 hours in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education.  She is a  graduate of Marshall University and teaches at Connor Street Elementary in Hurricane.  She has taught school in Putnam County for 12 years and for the past six years, she has been a teacher at Conner Street Elementary.

Ms. Roberts also was honored as the Conner Street Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2007-2008.   In the photo below, VFW Post # 9097 Quartermaster Bill Lambert presented a Certificate of Appreciation, a United States Flag and also made a donation in the amount of $250 to Connor Street Elementary School in recognition of Ms. Robert's achievements.  

In addition to the local presentation, Ms. Roberts also received a letter of congratulations from Steve Van Buskirk, National Director, VFW Programs, Youth and Special Projects from the VFW National Headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri.  This year Target Corporation, one of the nations leading retail stores, generously provided a $50 gift card to be presented to each of the state Teacher of the Year winners.  In the coming years the VFW and Target hope to expand this relationship to broaden the scope of these awards to better recognize our VFW Teacher of the Year winners.
